Categories and payees
A category is what the money was for. Every transaction has one, which is how Quidough can show you where your money went.
You pick a category every time you add or edit a transaction. There’s no saving one without it, so there’s never an unsorted pile building up behind your back.
Spending or income
Each category is either a spending one or an income one, and that’s settled when it’s created. You can rename it, recolor it, or change its icon whenever you like, but the spending or income part is fixed. Open one to edit and it simply tells you which it is.
You start with a set of everyday ones.
Deleting a category that’s in use
You can’t simply delete a category while transactions are still filed under it, because every transaction has to belong to one. So Quidough asks you to pick another category of the same type, moves the transactions across, and then removes the old one. Your insights update to match.
A category with nothing filed under it has nothing to move, so it goes straight away.
Payees
A payee is who a transaction was paid to, or received from. You don’t manage them separately. Type a new name on a transaction, save, and Quidough creates the payee for you.
Names are matched ignoring capitals, so “Tesco” and “tesco” stay one payee rather than two. Accents are ignored as well, so a payee you saved as “Café” still comes up when you type “Cafe”. If you’ve written it both ways, you’ll see both, so you can tidy up the odd one.
Once you’ve used a payee before, Quidough offers the description and category you last used with it as you type, so repeat entries take a couple of taps. Suggestions as you type covers what it offers and where the answers come from.
