Recording a transaction

A transaction is a single movement of money in one account, either in or out, in that account’s currency. Recording one takes a couple of taps, and the new row appears in your lists straight away rather than making you wait for it to save.

What Quidough needs

An amount, a description, who it was paid to, a category, and the account it belongs to.

You don’t have to remember that list. If you try to save with something still missing, Quidough marks each field that needs filling with a short note of what’s wanted, and jumps you to the first one. Each mark clears itself the moment you fill that field in.

The date

You can date a transaction today or any day already past, but not ahead.

Quidough records what has actually happened. A payment you’re only expecting hasn’t happened yet, and treating it as though it had would quietly throw your figures off. The money would leave your balance weeks before it really leaves your account, and your total would stop matching what your bank tells you.

So if you pick a date that hasn’t arrived, Quidough says so there and then, rather than letting you fill everything in and refusing at the end. It offers to set the payment up in Scheduled instead, carrying across everything you’d already typed. If you’d rather just correct the date, that’s a tap away too.

Which day it counts toward

Each transaction remembers the moment it happened and the day it counts toward. Those are usually the same, but they can differ around midnight. The day it belongs to is worked out in your household’s time zone rather than a server’s, so “today” always matches your own calendar. Your monthly grouping, your budgets and your currency conversion all use that day.

Deleting one

Deleting a transaction takes it out of the app straight away. Everywhere you would normally see it, it’s gone: your lists, your balances, your insights.

For a moment afterward you’ll see a short message with an Undo button, so a slip is a one-tap fix. Once that message goes, there’s no bin to open later and no way to bring it back yourself.
