Leaving a household

You can leave a household whenever you want, as long as you aren’t the last one in it. Leaving closes the door behind you: from that moment the household’s accounts, transactions and budgets are no longer yours to see or touch, the same as if you’d never been a member.

Leaving and being removed end in the same place

You leave from the Household page, using the control on your own card. The owner can remove a member from theirs.

Both land in exactly the same place, and either way you get an email as it happens, so you’re never left wondering.

If you’re the one paying for the household, leaving ends the subscription too. Quidough says so in the confirmation before you go, and what happens if the person paying leaves has the detail.

If you’re the owner

A household always has exactly one owner, so an owner can’t walk away and leave it without one.

When there’s one other person, they inherit it automatically. When there are several, you choose who takes over on your way out. Whoever it is gets an email saying so, and yours mentions that they were told.

If you’re the only one left, you can’t leave at all. Tapping Leave explains that rather than stranding you. Deleting the household is the different thing you may actually want, and it takes everyone with it.

Nothing you added comes with you

None of it is lost, and none of it follows you out. It stays with the household, because it was shared money rather than yours alone.

Your own accounts are archived with their history intact and your own budgets are removed, which is the same tidying up described in how account ownership works.

Your name stays in the history

One thing of yours does stay behind. Your name and the email you signed in with sit beside the entries you made in the household’s shared history, and both are included whenever someone there downloads the household’s data.

That’s the same rule as everything else here: a household keeps its own records until the household itself is deleted. It holds even if you go on to delete your Quidough account.

Coming back

Leaving or being removed closes one door, never your Quidough account. You’re free to start a household of your own, or join someone else’s with a fresh invite, whenever you’re ready.

That includes returning to the one you left, if someone there invites you. You come back as a member, though, even if you used to be its owner. Handing that role over was a decision you made on the way out, with someone named, and rejoining doesn’t quietly reverse it.

Coming back doesn’t undo the tidying up either. Accounts that were archived when you left stay archived until someone unarchives them, budgets that were removed don’t return, and if the household was down to one person while you were away, what used to be yours may now belong to whoever stayed.
