How to invite someone to your household
A household is the shared space you and the people you live with keep your money in. Everyone in it works on the same accounts, the same transactions and the same budgets. Only the household’s owner can bring someone new in.
Creating the link
Open the Household page and choose Invite someone, then Create invite link. Quidough makes one and hands it to you ready to copy.
Send it however you like. The person opens it, signs in, and they’re in. There’s nothing for them to set up and nothing for you to approve afterward.
The link works once, for a day
An invite link is single use, and it expires 24 hours after it’s created. Once someone has used it, it’s spent.
Anyone holding that link can join with full access to your household’s money, so treat it like a key and send it only to someone you trust. If you need to take it back, the invite screen has two buttons: Revoke turns the link off, and Regenerate replaces it with a new one and turns the old one off.
What the person you invite sees
Before they join, they see your name and the household’s, and a short note on what joining means: they’ll share everything in it, and what they add stays with the household, in their name, even if they later leave. Nothing happens until they tap Join. If they’d rather not, they can simply close the page.
Once they’re in, you both get an email. Theirs says what they’ll find and where to start; yours says your invite worked, and reminds you what the owner labels on accounts and budgets mean.
What changes once there are two of you
Quidough is quieter when you’re on your own. A second person arriving brings out a few things that had nothing to do before: owner labels on accounts and budgets, and a shared history showing who did what.
The Household page then lists everyone in it, with their name, whether they’re the owner or a member, and the email address they signed in with. Who has access is never a guess.
Owner and member
There’s exactly one owner, and it’s whoever created the household. The owner can do two things a member can’t: invite people, and remove someone.
Everything else is identical whatever your role. Adding, editing and deleting accounts, transactions, budgets and categories all work the same for everybody. Being in the household is what gives you access, not the role you hold in it.
That’s a different sense of the word from the one on an account or a budget, which is about whose money it is. See how account ownership works.
